12 Words & Images For The 12 Months of 2012

by Monica on January 4, 2012

Earlier this week I wrote about my word for 2012: DEFINING as well as my hindsight word for 2011: SHEDDING.

Because I love words so much, I decided to designate a word for each month to serve as priority reminders throughout the year. Each of the twelve words exists to support my overall goal of DEFINING.

But first, a little back-story: I have a penchant for books that explore the process of breaking down long-term-big-scary-goals into structured, manageable steps like  Julia & Julia, The Happiness Project, and The Geography of Bliss. However, since I don’t even know where I’ll be living, who I’ll be living with, or how I’ll be paying the bills three months from now (more on this in a future post), forging a clear and detailed path for the next 361 days isn’t entirely realistic.

Despite these setbacks (or areas for opportunity, depending on your perspective) I’m beyond excited for several career and life goals I do know I want to accomplish over the next 52 weeks. So even though I can’t be super specific about my plan of attack for each month (like Gretchen Rubin in The Happiness Project), and I don’t have one tangible goal for the year (like Julie Powell in Julie & Julia), and I’m not on a research mission (like Eric Weiner in The Geography of Bliss), I can still fill in a few blanks and create an arch for my personal story of 2012.

I’m also extremely visual, which is unfortunate since I am completely void of technically artistic abilities (what I would give to be  instantaneously adept at Photoshop and Final Cut Pro!). But this year I decided I wanted a personal and esthetically pleasing image for my year of DEFINING. So with the technical help of a wonderful friend, I created a wallpaper calendar for my laptop that incorporates photos I took during my travels in 2011 and my designated words for each month.

Voila!

My 2012 in words and images:

If this Calendar resonate with you, feel free to download your own version here:

2012 Calendar 1024 x 746

2012 Calendar 1280 x 960

2012 Calendar 1600 x 1200

Tip: This creates a rather “busy” background on your screen. If you want to still be able to see your desktop folders, choose the “Center” option to display the image

What does your year look like? I’d love to hear about any of your tips for sticking with your resolutions/intentions/goals!

So happy I came across your blog, I love the words you chose they each fit so perfectly. I picked my word for the year a few days ago and wrote about it, I am excited to see how it shows itself in my life this year.

This is so great! I also came up with a word for each month – to help guide my overall focus, blogging and transitions from one month to the next. I really like how you’ve paired each with an image. I may have to borrow your lovely idea :) Here’s to a wonderful 2012!

Laura! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support! But a have a confession: I’m totally fearful… about so many things. I just make myself keep going (or I try to anyway).
